Abstract

Employee data security is a critical aspect of personnel information systems because the stored data are sensitive and vulnerable to various cyber threats. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA) in securing employee data based on security and computational efficiency. The research employed an experimental method by implementing the AES and TEA algorithms using the Python programming language. The experimental data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to compare the performance of the two algorithms. The results indicate that the TEA algorithm achieved a faster average encryption time than AES, requiring 200.00 ms compared to 242.67 ms for AES. In contrast, AES demonstrated a higher level of security, with an average avalanche effect of 49.82%, which is closer to the ideal value of 50% than the 2.94% achieved by TEA, indicating stronger resistance to cryptographic attacks. Based on these findings, AES is recommended for personnel information systems that prioritize data security, while TEA may serve as an alternative for systems that emphasize computational efficiency and operate under limited computational resources.
