Heart rate monitoring systems are an important solution in the healthcare world for early detection of heart conditions. This study designed and built a heart rate monitoring system based on an AD8232 sensor connected to an ESP32 microcontroller. Heart rate data in the form of BPM (Beats Per Minute) is sent in real-time to a server using a WiFi connection and stored in a MySQL database via a CodeIgniter 3-based web platform. This system allows users to monitor BPM through a responsive web interface, complete with historical graphs, classification by age category, and automatic alerts if the BPM value is outside the normal range (bradycardia or tachycardia). Tests were conducted on various age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, healthy adults, and adults with a history of heart disease. The results showed that the average difference between the BPM of the device and the blood pressure monitor was within the range of 1–3 BPM, with an accuracy of 97%. This system is considered quite accurate and consistent in detecting BPM simply, although it has not been clinically validated. With automatic notification features and informative data visualization, this system has the potential to be used for non-medical and educational health monitoring in home or community settings.
