Abstract

BigBlueButton is an open-source online conferencing platform widely used for remote learning and virtual meetings. Previous research has generally focused on performance aspects such as Quality of Service (QoS), bandwidth efficiency, and user satisfaction while systematic functional validation remains relatively limited. This study aims to evaluate the functional reliability of BigBlueButton using the Black-Box Testing method. Tests were designed based on user stories and official documentation, without accessing the system's source code. Test scenarios covered the platform's core functions, including session creation, user participation, audio-video communication, screen sharing, instant messaging, file transfer, breakout room management, moderator controls, and recording. All tests were conducted across various combinations of browsers, operating systems, and network conditions simulated through varying latency and bandwidth capacities. The results indicate that basic features, such as audio-video communication and text chat, function consistently under stable network conditions. Conversely, certain complex features such as switching breakout rooms, playback of recordings, and access rights synchronization exhibit inconsistencies under specific conditions. This study establishes a replicable functional testing framework for evaluating online conferencing platforms and provides recommendations for developers to enhance stability, reliability, and the quality of the user experience.
