The Parit II River in Tungkal Ilir District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency is one of the water bodies used by the community for various purposes such as domestic activities, fisheries, and economic activities around residential areas and traditional markets. The increase in activities has the potential to put pressure on the condition of the aquatic environment through the entry of domestic waste, garbage, and other organic matter into the river body. In addition, the hydrological characteristics of rivers in downstream areas are also influenced by the tidal dynamics of seawater from the Hala Strait which can cause fluctuations in the concentration of water quality parameters. These conditions can affect the status of water quality, so it is necessary to conduct a scientific evaluation to determine the level of pollution that occurs. This study aims to analyze the quality and quality status of the water quality of the Parit II Tributary in tidal and low tide conditions using the Pollution Index (IP) method. Sampling was carried out at three observation points representing the upstream, middle, and downstream sectors using the grab sampling method. The water quality parameters analyzed included temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen requirement (BOD), chemical oxygen requirement (COD), total suspended solid (TSS), nitrate, total phosphate, and fecal coliform. The assessment of water quality status refers to class II water quality standards based on Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. The results showed that several parameters such as BOD, COD, TSS, and fecal coliform at several observation points had exceeded the set quality standards, especially in tidal conditions. Based on the Pollution Index method, the water quality status at all observation points is included in the category of light pollution with an index value ranging from 1.92 to 3.59. Meanwhile, the results of the calculation using the CCME WQI method showed a value of 68.47 which was included in the sufficient category, which indicates that water quality can still be used for several purposes but in certain conditions does not always meet quality standards. In general, the results of the study show that the water quality of the Parit II Tributary has experienced a decline in quality influenced by anthropogenic activities and tidal dynamics of the water.
